Meet the Asian Facial Aesthetics Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who plans and performs facial surgery here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what a staged assessment of this area usually needs: the center’s surgical standards and its experience of revision, the assessment of how much of a problem lies in the behaviour of the skin itself, and the dermatologic diagnosis of the findings that make a facial change a medical rather than an aesthetic question.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Sequencing facial planning · skeletal support read before soft tissue · saying when a stage should be declined

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the order of work. He records the frame before anything is planned on top of it, separates a surface problem from a support problem, and treats the two on different timescales because they answer on different timescales. He declines a stage when the assessment does not support it, and he says plainly when the honest plan is observation rather than treatment. Where pigment or scar risk is a factor, he plans for it in the sequence rather than treating it as a complication to be dealt with afterwards, and he will stop a plan that is not producing what it was meant to produce.

Clinical focus

  • Facial proportions recorded as relationships inside one face
  • Skeletal support assessed before any soft-tissue stage is planned
  • Pigment and scar risk written into the sequence, not added afterwards
  • Staged planning with a review point and an agreed stop rule for each stage
  • Saying plainly when a stage should be declined or simply deferred

Order is the plan

The same set of treatments in two different orders produces two different faces. Support placed before volume behaves differently from volume placed first, and a surface treated before the frame is settled often has to be reconsidered once it is. The sequence is not an administrative detail; it is the part of the plan that decides what the rest of it can achieve.

Plan the order, not the list

Arrange an assessment. The conversation begins with what your own face is doing and what a plan could change, and it may end with a decision to wait.
